This is a simple trick using a pumpkin and dry ice. You don’t need to carve the pumpkin, in fact, don’t. It will ruin the effect. Simply cut the top off the pumpkin and clean it out. Place some dry ice in the pumpkin, add some warm water and quickly place the lid back on the pumpkin. The steam from the dry ice will find small cracks and openings where the lid meets the pumpkin and it will send dry ice steam shooting out. The effect won’t last too long. You can reactivate it by adding more warm water. And of course, be careful handling the dry ice. It’ll burn you (and we know).
